Common questions

What is the difference between burnout and depression?
Burnout is caused by prolonged workplace or life stress and improves when the source of stress is removed. Depression is a clinical condition that affects all areas of life regardless of circumstance. Both can co-occur, and burnout can trigger depression if left unaddressed.
How do I know if I'm burned out or just tired?
Tiredness resolves with rest. Burnout doesn't. If you've slept a full weekend and still feel emotionally flat, detached from things you used to care about, or physically exhausted despite doing less — that's burnout, not tiredness.
Can burnout cause physical symptoms?
Yes. Burnout commonly causes headaches, muscle tension, stomach issues, weakened immune system, insomnia, and chronic fatigue. Your body keeps the score even when your mind tries to push through.
When should I see a therapist for burnout?
If burnout is affecting your relationships, your ability to function at work, or your physical health — or if you've been feeling this way for more than a few weeks — it's time to talk to someone. You don't need to be in crisis to deserve support.
